I attended the Executive Programme ‘Executing Strategy for Result’ in March at the London Business School. Six days of intensive and interactive learning with participants from around the world: from Saudi Arabia to Canada, Kenya to France. There was a mix of lectures, case studies, guest speakers and experiments; all aspects of corporate strategy are covered: How do you formulate a comprehensible strategy? How do you ensure that scarce resources are focused on the right priorities? And how do you embed a strategy in the organisation in such a way that colleagues understand and embrace it? It’s great to apply this at our organisation with other managerial colleagues at Nederlandse Loterij.

Don’t lose sight of what matters

I always advise my team: don’t just focus on professional development. I have learned at least as much at training sessions where I got to know myself better: What drives me? Why do I do things the way I do? Which types of people do I naturally click with, which do I prefer to avoid, and why? And what can I learn from that?
