A special role in a unique market, where your work directly helps to strengthen the organisation. Curious to find out more? Read Grace’s story.
Grace Ramkisoen is Head of Internal Audit at Nederlandse Loterij. With more than 20 years of experience in various sectors such as healthcare, energy and government, she knows exactly how to improve processes. Grace leads a team of three auditors. “Because we are a small team, as an Auditor you have a lot of freedom, independence and responsibility. That makes the work challenging and enjoyable.”
“As Auditor, you investigate whether processes are properly organised and whether laws and regulations are followed. You talk to colleagues at all levels: from board members to IT and facility teams. This gives you a complete picture of how the organisation functions. You conduct audits on various topics, such as the drawing process or lottery payouts. You conduct interviews, analyse systems and observe how processes run. That makes the work varied and interesting.”
What does Grace find so special about Nederlandse Loterij? The focus on responsible play. “From the outside, you only see the games. But behind the scenes, so much is happening to ensure that players can play safe and responsible. I didn’t know that myself before I started working here.” She understands that people are sometimes surprised by her switch from healthcare to a gambling provider. “But that’s exactly why it’s important to show what we do to promote responsible gaming. Nederlandse Loterij wants to be the most responsible provider, and we as the audit team make an important contribution to that.”
At Nederlandse Loterij, you work in a niche market. “There are only a few organisations that do what we do, which makes the work even more special. Our processes are very specific, especially when it comes to our core activities: lotteries and i-gaming. As an Auditor, you closely follow developments in the sector. That’s important because it helps us identify risks and assess whether we’ve taken the right steps to manage them.”
There’s plenty of room for growth at Nederlandse Loterij. “As an Auditor, it’s important to continue developing yourself. For example, we are exploring the latest AI techniques and how we can use them in our audits. Everyone in the team contributes to the growth of the department. We challenge each other and together take the audit department to a higher level. That makes me proud.”
