Campaign coordinator and active staff association member, Charlotte Hoogduijn, tells how she and her colleagues enjoy organising and planning activities. Charlotte started her career at Nederlandse Loterij 3,5 years ago as a retail support assistant. Looking for a bigger challenge, she soon took on the role of campaign coordinator. “As an extrovert, I enjoy having multiple responsibilities. The role of campaign coordinator suits me perfectly. I am responsible for all aspects of the campaigns, such as checking the accuracy, timeliness and affordability of and with various departments. Coordinating and evaluating campaigns from A to Z with clients and management is also part of my job. I used to coordinate campaigns for eight brands with one colleague, which was challenging. In the last year and a half, our team has doubled in size, allowing me to start working as sales coordinator next to my role as a campaign coordinator, and I have now been one of the organisers of the staff association for over two years now.”
What does an organiser do? Charlotte says: “First of all, I love organising, planning and making people happy, and I can do that by organising outings. Every month, I meet with six colleagues to come up with new, inspiring activities and to review recent events. For our brainstorming sessions, we collect input from our colleagues every year. Based on their input, we come up with various activities, ranging from weekend trips and tournaments to themed parties and workshops.”
Charlotte continues, “We always take into account the different preferences of our colleagues when choosing the outings and gifts. A weekend in the Ardennes is not for everyone. That is why we also organise other activities, such as football and volleyball tournaments, bowling evenings, flower arranging courses, cooking classes and theme parties. We try to organise four or five staff events each year.”
With 430 members, it is important to have something fun for everyone. Charlotte says: “Every year, we try to get as many people as possible involved in an event and make sure they have a good time. We have an average of 100 to 150 people per event. Our challenge? To always come up with something new. Of course, we don’t want to become predictable. For example, two years ago, we gifted everyone a Christmas tree, and the year after that, we surprised them with something completely different.”
Charlotte stresses that the staff association serves an important purpose. She explains: “At work, we are often serious, but staff events offer a great opportunity to get to know each other better. It also helps you to network, especially because you meet people from other teams or from the field, such as the area managers for the shops, who you don’t see every day. And the atmosphere is great. In short, when you attend the staff association events, you get to know all your colleagues and find out who works at Nederlandse Loterij.”
